About Me – Hynek Kalista
My name is Hynek Kalista, and handmade work has accompanied me for most of my life.
After graduating from a technical high school focused on construction, my mother once asked me a simple question:
“What do you want to be?”
My answer was very simple:
“I want to be a good person.”
This idea has stayed with me ever since and eventually became the inspiration for the name of my company HOMA BONA s.r.o., which loosely translates as “a good person.”
The Path to Craftsmanship
I originally studied construction with a specialization in water management engineering. For several years I worked on projects in nature – building ponds, tourist trails in the Krkonoše Mountains, and forest roads.
Later I worked as a project estimator and preparation specialist at COLAS a.s., and for several years I also worked in the real estate company LORD.
Yet throughout this time I felt increasingly drawn toward craftsmanship, creativity, and working with my hands.
The Beginning of My Business
Around 2007–2008, I began focusing more on one of my hobbies – blacksmithing. At the same time, the handmade marketplace Fler was growing, and I started selling my first handmade jewelry there.
I created my first forged rings, which quickly became popular. As interest in wedding rings grew, I founded the company KREDUM CZ s.r.o., specializing in their production.
For more than ten years I focused on making jewelry and wedding rings. This work taught me a deep respect for materials, detail, and the patience that true craftsmanship requires.
Rain Columns
Over time, I found myself returning to something that had always fascinated me – sound, music, and nature.
In 2023, the first Rain Column was created. It is an instrument capable of reproducing the natural sound of falling rain for several minutes up to nearly an hour.
I create Rain Columns in my small workshop in the foothills of the Krkonoše Mountains in the Czech Republic. Each instrument is handcrafted step by step with attention to detail, acoustics, and the natural character of the sound. The goal is to create an instrument that brings calm, rhythm, and the atmosphere of rain into a space.
Today these instruments are used by musicians, sound therapists, yoga studios, and people who seek relaxation and meditation. Thanks to the internet and platforms like Etsy, they have reached people in many countries around the world.
Part of my work also involves developing new construction ideas for the instrument. One example is the Sleep Rain Column – a special design with a very gentle and extended rain sound intended for relaxation and falling asleep. This type represents my own design improvement and construction concept, and it is currently offered exclusively by me.
A Second Motto
Over time another thought came to me that describes my journey quite well:
“Whatever I was, I was glad to be.”
Throughout my life I have experienced many professions –
builder, photographer, graphic designer, jeweler, blacksmith, carpenter, goldsmith, real estate agent, and machinist.
Each of them taught me something, and together they led me to where I am today.
Ideas come much like raindrops.
When a person remains open to new things, the path always appears.
And I truly look forward to what comes next.
